Singer Cynthia Morgan reveals encounter with actor Pete Edochie: “He forced me to go against my tradition by demanding ‘osiba'”.

Nigerian singer Cynthia Morgan recently shared an incident involving veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie in 2016.

In response to a video of Pete exchanging pleasantries with the respected Yoruba monarch, the Ooni of Ife, which caused a stir online, Morgan took to her Instagram page to recount an episode where she claimed Pete compelled her to act against her own tradition.

The video captured Pete Edochie shaking hands with the Ooni of Ife instead of following the customary Yoruba practice of prostrating or bowing down.

This action by Pete Edochie drew criticism on social media, as many believed it showed disrespect towards the king. In light of this, Cynthia Morgan acknowledged Pete’s adherence to the Igbo tradition during the interaction but accused him of disregarding the customs and beliefs of other tribes.

She recounted her personal experience in 2016 in Okrika, Port Harcourt, where, according to her, Pete, being a titled man, allegedly coerced her into giving him an “osiba,” which goes against her Benin tradition.

As a Benin lady, it is considered taboo for her to give an osiba to a titled Igbo man like Pete Edochie. However, she claimed that he forced her to do so against her will, thereby showing disrespect towards the Benin tradition.

Cynthia Morgan expressed her hope that Pete Edochie would learn to respect the traditions of others, just as he had respected his own.
