Sweden was one of the few places in Europe where you could study for free up until 2010. A law was subsequently approved by the Swedish government that levies tuition and application fees for students from non-EU/EEA nations, with Swedish Scholarship Programs serving as a backup.

For international students, a sizable number of Swedish universities continue to provide scholarships in the form of tuition exemptions.

The Swedish Institute Scholarships for Global Professionals (SISGP) are given out for full-time master’s level study in Sweden to highly qualified candidates from a limited number of nations. It pays for education fees as well as living expenses and insurance.

Scholarships offered by the Visby Program

The Visby Program offers students from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Russia, and Ukraine a number of full scholarships for master’s programs in Sweden. High-caliber candidates for Masters programs at the University of Bors who must pay tuition fees are eligible for tuition fee waivers from the university. The scholarships are not meant to pay for living expenses; rather, they are meant to cover the tuition fee to the tune of about 50%.

Scholarships from Chalmers IPOET

The IPOET Scholarships are available to nationals of non-EU/EEA nations who must pay tuition and who are applying to one of Chalmers University’s Master’s programs. The scholarships result in a 75% tuition fee reduction.

University of Halmstad Scholarships

Halmstad University provides a number of scholarships each year to deserving international students from outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland who must pay tuition. These scholarships are for master’s programs in any subject area the university offers. The Halmstad University Scholarship will be taken from the tuition and will cover 25% or 50% of the cost.

The goal of the Karlstad University Global Scholarship program is to draw outstanding academic candidates from nations outside the EU/EEA (and Switzerland) who must pay tuition to attend university. 25%, 50%, 75%, or 100% of the tuition is covered by scholarships.

Karolinska Institutet Scholarship for International Masters

Excellent students accepted into one of our Global Master’s Programmes beginning each Autumn semester are eligible to apply for a small number of tuition price scholarships from Karolinska Institutet. The scholarship is exclusively available for Master’s-level study and solely covers the cost of tuition, not living expenses.

Scholarships at Kristianstad University

Citizens of nations outside the EU/EEA who must pay tuition to study at Kristianstad University will be given the scholarship. If a scholarship is awarded, the tuition charge will be completely or partially waived.

King’s College of Technology Tuition Fee Exemptions

For non-EU/EEA/EFTA nationals who must pay tuition fees and have applied for a Master’s degree at KTH, a small number of tuition fee waivers will be made available. The tuition cost will be eliminated for the duration of the program if a scholarship is awarded.

University of Linnaeus Scholarships

Students who have applied to study at Linnaeus University and are from nations outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland are eligible for Linnaeus University Scholarships. Every year, Mälardalen University awards a limited number of scholarships to students from countries other than the EU/EEA/Switzerland who are required to pay tuition fees and have chosen the University as their first choice for a master’s programme. As long as you follow the normal study plan, the scholarship will cover 100% of the tuition fee for the program. Living expenses are not covered by the scholarship.

Master’s Scholarship at Malmö University

The Malmö University Master’s Scholarship (MUMS) is available to highly talented students who are citizens of a country other than the EU/EEA/Switzerland and have been accepted into an English-taught master’s program at Malmö University. The scholarship pays for the entire tuition.

Tuition Fee Scholarships at Mid Sweden University

All students who have applied to Mid Sweden University to study a Master’s programme and are required to pay tuition fees are eligible to apply for a Mid Sweden University Tuition Fee Scholarship. The scholarship pays for 75% of the tuition.

Scholarship Program at Rebro University

The rebro University Scholarship program is designed for top academic students from countries other than the EU/EEA and Switzerland who must pay tuition fees for their studies. The scholarship pays for full or partial tuition but not for living expenses.

Scholarships for Masters at the University of Skövde

A limited number of scholarships are available from the University of Skövde to students enrolled in the institution’s master’s programs who must pay tuition. The partial tuition fee waivers (50%) provided by the scholarships.

Scholarship Program at Stockholm University

The scholarship program at Stockholm University is intended for exceptionally talented students admitted to Master’s programs from nations outside of the EU/EEA/Switzerland who must pay tuition. Students must pay for their own living expenses because scholarships from Stockholm University only cover tuition.

University of Maine Scholarships
